Until 1992 Joint Library Committee every year gathered the information about  bibliographic indices and other resources of bibliographic information created by Latvian libraries.

Continuing this work, in 1998 Section of Bibliography of Latvian Librarians’ Association organized the first contest after restoration of Independence - about printed bibliographic resources, published in Latvia from 1996 till 1998, thus gathering information about bibliographic indices published after restoration of Independence, as well as bibliographic indices, compiled by the students of Library and Information Science at the University of Latvia. Bibliographic index “Bibliography in Latvia 1991-1998” (Riga, 1998, 24 p.) was published. The contest ended with an exhibition “Bibliography in Latvia 1991-1998”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the National Library of Latvia, and with awarding the best compilers of bibliographic indices in the period 1991-1998. 

The present project extends this tradition by

• Covering all types of bibliographic information resources in Latvian libraries, information centers and other institutions;
• Ensuring regular update of data and public access via Internet as a result of cooperation between Sections of Bibliography of both professional associations - Latvian Librarians’ Association and the Association of Latvian Academic Libraries
